A Health Leaders Media article quoted Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) President Lois Simon on the socioeconomic status (SES) of dual-eligibles and how SES affects organizations that support disadvantaged seniors.
In the story, Lois described the challenges organizations like CCA face when caring for dual-eligibles: “It is harder to reach them. It can be harder to establish trust with them. You need to expend more resources to achieve good health outcomes with this population.”
Lois’ comments were part of a discussion of CMS’s recent decision to hold off on changes to its Medicare Advantage “Star” ratings system until it had more time to study the relationship between SES and the health outcomes of dual-eligibles.
