On May 10, Dr. Toyin Ajayi, Commonwealth Care Alliance’s Chief Medical Officer, participated in a panel on the future of long-term services and supports in MassHealth at a well-attended event sponsored by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts. Titled MassHealth Matters II: Options for Reforming Long-Term Services and Supports, the event featured the release of a Foundation report making seven policy recommendations for reform in Massachusetts. The recommendations range from integrating long-term services and supports with medical care to increasing access to affordable housing.
The recommendations are timely as MassHealth looks to reform its service delivery mechanisms through the promotion of accountable care organizations, and is grappling with how to integrate long-term services and supports into those initiatives. Commonwealth Care Alliance, through Dr. Ajayi’s participation, was featured as a rare example of an organization embodying many of the recommended principles in its Senior Care Options and One Care programs.
